Jeong-ryeol Kim
President of Korea English Extensive Reading Association
I would like to extend my warm welcome to the visitors of our homepage and encourage people of extensive reading to utilize our resources on ER connected to the Extensive Reading Foundation and ER-Central. KEERA is
still in its infancy despite the important role it can play for the English education in Korea.
Due to the lack of organizational affordance, KEERA could not be aggressive to recruit all the able people in the field, but many scholars and people practicing extensive reading volunteered their time and knowledge for the organization as you can find in the members of the board.
KEERA is primarily focused on the what’s and how’s of extensive reading in different levels of schools.
Our organization will provide insights as to how we approach to providing sustainable English learning and its environment.
Once English learners get motivated and interested in English by inspiring methodologies, and carry the interests in decoding English words and comprehend simple stories. Students will expand their lexicon to the basic 1,000 or 2,000 word level in a relatively short amount of time by being exposed to English through their extensive reading.
Students can learn to enjoy reading and listening to stories for sustainable period of time by providing facilitative school-based English programs. School-based English programs became readily available to students in terms of their locations and diversities. KEERA will help the participants find ways to bring back the fun and motivation for students learning English in a generally input-poor environment like Korea.
I hope that the visitors join the association to maximize their understanding on practicing ER and come together to change the English education in more fun and sustaining. You will learn all about this by participating in our conferences, workshops, training and development and finally reading journals.
I look forward to working with you and hearing from you to make the organization beneficial to people of the same interest: creating affordable English rich environments for our students.
